The item is a fake.

We all want the real thing, not counterfeit or fake items.

While fake items are not allowed on marko, some may still slip through. That’s why we’ve outlined the key steps you should take if you believe an item you've received is not authentic.

1. Check the authenticity

Before moving forward, it’s important to verify whether the item is truly counterfeit. Here's how you can do that:

  • Request a certificate of authenticity: High-value and branded items often come with official documentation. A legitimate seller should be able to provide a certificate of authenticity, either upon request or included with the item. Pro tip: Before purchasing an expensive item, ask the seller for proof of authenticity ✔️.

  • Do your research: If you’re suspicious, visit the brand’s official website or consult trusted retailers to check what a genuine product looks like. Focus on details such as logos, packaging, labels, and common authenticity markers.

  • Compare the item to a verified original: Inspect what you received and compare it to images or specs of the real product. Look closely at stitching, materials, label placement, fonts, and build quality - these often reveal subtle inconsistencies.

2. Initiate a return

Once your item is delivered and you’re questioning its authenticity, you have 48 hours to request a return - easy as that.

To start a return:

  1. Go to your purchase overview

  2. Click “Item not as expected? Request return”

  3. Select “Item is fake”

  4. Upload your evidence and leave an explanatory comment within 48 hours after delivery

  5. Confirm shipping the item back within 72 hours after step 4 by uploading shipping evidence

Once the return is confirmed, you’ll be reimbursed for the item’s price within just a few days, while marko starts the investigation. Learn more about the Buyer’s Return Policy.

☝️If it was a pickup order, leave the item directly with the seller and cancel the purchase through your purchase overview, under “Item not as expected”. If you take an item back home, you can’t return it after pickup.

☝️ Just a quick reminder: before requesting a return, please confirm that your package has been delivered. If it’s still marked as "in transit", the return option won’t show up until delivery is confirmed.

3. Let marko investigate

Everytime a return is submitted for a fake item, marko automatically reviews the evidence.

  • If the item is confirmed to be counterfeit: We’ll notify you that you’ll receive a full refund (item price + buyer protection fee + both shipping costs)

  • If the item is not deemed counterfeit: We’ll inform you that the evidence did not confirm the item is fake, but you’ll still receive a partial refund (item price)

📦 Keep in mind: Returning the item ensures you are eligible for at least a refund of the item price - even while the case is under review. In other words, always confirm the return shipment within 72 hours following your return request.
