How can I reach a buyer?

This article will guide you on how to contact buyers.

On marko, communication between sellers and buyers happens only in the context of a listing or an order. This means you won’t send out-of-the-blue messages - your interactions are always tied to an item a buyer is interested in or has purchased.

Direct Messages (Private Chat)

DMs are one-on-one conversations between you and the buyer. They’re always tied to either:

  • A listing (before a purchase, e.g. for private negotiation or clarifying details), or

  • An order (after a purchase, e.g. for shipping updates, pickup details, or problem resolution).

How to send a DM:

  • For a listing (before purchase): Reply to the buyer directly from your Inbox.

  • For a sale (after purchase): Open the order in My Listings and click the ✉️ icon to start or continue your chat. You can also access the conversation anytime in your Inbox.

  • A chat is always linked to either one item or to an order. You can’t message another user without referring to an item.

  • Our DM feature doesn’t support sending files or photos yet, we’re working on it 🔜 . In the meantime, if a buyer needs more images, just add extra photos directly to your listing so they can view them there.

☝️ Things to keep in mind:

  • Keep your message respectful - messages are moderated.

  • Don’t share personal contact information to protect your privacy, and so we can protect your money.

Seller offers

As seller, you can proactively send offers to all buyers who have added your item to their cart, even if you haven't had messaged each other yet.

This is useful when buyers show interest but haven’t completed their purchase.

  1. Go to My Listings

  2. Tap the ⋮ menu on your item

  3. Select Send offer to cart holders

  4. Choose a discount

  5. Confirm to send the offer

The offer will appear in the buyer's chat, and trigger a notification. Learn more about How offers work?
